Queensland Raceway 16-17th June!!

This was Steve Morcombes first outing this year in his Toyota 1600cc powered Chiron. Having missed a couple of Queensland championship races due to a very nasty cycle accident at 40kph on the main road.

For the first time he was to compete against the West 1000 cars which have been dominating sports car racing in the southern Australian states. Attached is a picture of Steve in the collecting area with the West's lined up behind him. Steve, his crew and all at Chiron in the UK would be delighted if this pictures finds it way to the West HQ.

Raceway

The first race grid was based on qualifying time and Steve did the business with out any problems. Unfortunately the battery took a bit of a battering getting the new engine started for the second race and he failed to finish. Despite this he still had to start 70 seconds (nearly a lap) behind the pack and 11 seconds behind the Wests. Steve finished 3rd only 1.9 seconds behind. He only needed another lap!!!!!!

Steve and his crew will be at Morgan Park in two weeks for the third round of the Queensland Open Sports Car Championship. The DNF at Queensland raceway was the first, and also, the only race that Steve has not won since he got his car on the track. A big thankyou from Chiron UK to Tony and Anthony for working through the night to replace Steves engine after the Friday test..
