Buncombe Pairing Dominate At Snetterton 14 September 2003
Brothers
Chris and Alex Buncombe today took two 'Lights to Flag' victories in
the final rounds of the NSS Sportscar Series at Snetterton sharing the
Factory Chiron 003 Prototype. Chris drove the car during the first qualifying
session securing Pole Position with a stunning 1m05.2sec lap, over 1.8
seconds under the Lap Record! His younger brother, Alex then took to
the wheel during qualifying for the second race and impressed again by
taking Pole Position, 1.3 seconds clear of second placed Ben Clucas.
Race One saw Chris make a great start from the Pole and lead into
the first corner. From there on despite initial pressure from the
pursuing
cars of Ben Clucas and Chris Ward he kept his head and pulled out
a gap to take the win. "Once I had a comfortable margin my aim was just
to maintain the lead rather than push too hard as it was important to
try and keep the tyres in good condition for Alex in the second race.
We decided before the start that I needed to try and control the race
at the slowest pace possible" Commented Chris.
Alex then lined up on Pole Position for Race Two alongside Clucas
on the front row. A faultless drive then followed with him leading
all
the way to the flag and impressively setting a New Lap Record
of 1m 05.9!
Alex was extremely happy with the weekend's success "The set-up
of the Chiron was excellent and although my first aim was to win
the race I really wanted to push to take the Lap Record which we've
achieved.
The Team have done a fantastic job and for Chris and I to come here
and take 2 Poles, 2 Wins and the Lap Record it couldn't have gone
any better!"
The result marked the perfect end to a hugely successful year
for the Chiron World Sportscars Team after winning the Championship
a few weeks
ago. Team Boss and Car Designer, Henry Nickless commented "It was
a stunning performance from both Chris and Alex all weekend and this
final result was the icing on the cake after taking the Championship
at the last round".
