Stephen Shanly continued where he left off last year. At Rockingham
International Speedway on 3rd and 4th April he totally dominated proceedings
driving the works Chiron LMP3-02.
He failed to get pole for race one, however a superb start from 2nd
on the grid saw him lead from lights to flag and set a new lap record
at 1min 35.257 seconds. His lead was nearly 18 seconds at the flag.
A serious challenge is expected this year from Robert Oldershaw Jnr.
driving the 2003 Juno. Oldershaw spun and damaged his car and retired
on lap 5 of 14.
For race two on Sunday, Shanly got pole by a margin of .363 of a second
and again made a superb start and pulled out a lead of just over 11
seconds from Oldershaw. In the process he lowered the lap record further
to 1min 34.499seconds. Shanly drove superbly and won convincingly.
At the next round at Croft on 15/16th May, Stephen will be joined
by his new team mates, Doug Hart and Peter Hobday. They will be driving
their new Chiron LMP3-04 cars, which were unable to compete in the
first round as the cars were not ready. A nearly complete car was taken
to the meeting and aroused a lot of interest.
A much larger grid is expected at Croft in May and the Chiron Team
expect their new team members to add to the competition at the front.
